The club has two RIBs and majority of the clubs diving is carried out on these. Each RIB is equipped with GPS, VHF radio, fish-finder, flares and other safety equipment such as an O2 cylinder & regulator and first aid kit. Use of boats will be granted to appropriately qualified and experienced club members who should have a recognised boat handling qualification or are considered by committee members to have appropriate boat handling experience. Please note the Dive Manager does not necessary need to be appropriately qualified as long as two other members of the dive team are!
Each boat has a boat box that is kept by the Boat Officer that contains items such as GPS, fish finder and the boat keys. When a boat is requested the dive manager or his nominee collect the boat box from the Boat Officer. This ensures that the boats are only used by members who have permission to use them and it also enables the club to keep an eye on where the boats are and what state there are in.
At the end of a club boat dive trip a boat equipment maintenance list should be completed on the dive log sheet and a copy passed to the Boat Officer along with the boat box as soon as possible after the dive trip, as there could be another group wanting to use the boat the next day. Its is very important to bring to the Boat Officers attention any fault or maintenance issues as soon as possible so the boats are kept safe and ready for the next users.
