Diving photos from the 80’s

The 80’s might give you images of big hair, greed, great pop and rock music and general excess. Eastleigh sub aqua club however was a bastion of stability, that jumper in the bottom photo has always been in fasion.  The picture at the bottom of this blog features a long standing member of our club Pete who is still actively diving. He found these photos in the loft the other day.
The dive boat in the photos was one of our first in about 1985. Here we are launching from Torquay (?) Babbacombe perhaps. Back then it was quite usual to launch the boat on the shore. I believe the two people in the first shot on the beach are Jim and Ruth Butler. 80's diving
Pete to remembers the club stayed in a “static” caravan that year at Paignton. The old Zodiac had a “Yamaha” 40 h.p. engine, with a recoil start. Quite reliable, but the boat did sit low in the water, and the floor panels were inclined to come “adrift” from the floor “runners”, and of course travelling out to somewhere like the “O” wreck was out of the question. But we did have a good time. I also remember Ruth making loads of cakes and handing them around. Not quite the “Simnal” cakes of the more recent years, but still delicious.
